Scandinavia’s oldest human and Denmark’s oldest runes
Artifacts up to 12,000 years old tell the story of Odense, Funen, and Denmark as a whole.
Danish and world history is presented from a Funen-centered perspective through the museum’s impressive collection of authentic objects. Explore countless stories that span across time. At the heart of the exhibition, you will find some of Denmark’s most important archaeological discoveries, including the skeleton of The Koelbjerg Man – Scandinavia’s oldest known human – and Denmark’s oldest runes, “Little Sword”. You can also see the pistol that fired the shots triggering the August Rebellion during World War II, which drew Hitler’s attention to Denmark.
The exhibition is in the main building, a modern exhibition space with an elevator.
